Mariana Portela Echeverri is a Portuguese-Colombian artist who’s work explores the languages, technologies and expansiveness of the body through an oneiric and experimental lens. Her practice is interdisciplinary and her projects create fluid scenarios where danger, desire and a childlike universe meet within a space filled with games and traps.
She holds a BA in Fine Arts by the Universitat de Barcelona (2009) where she was strongly connected with the artistic movement of postporn collaborating with various artists, such as Shu Lea Cheang. In 2016 she graduated from Goldsmiths University of London with an MFA in Fine Arts.
In 2019 she was awarded the Research Grant for Latin American Artist at PIVÔ Pesquisa in São Paulo (BR) attending their residency program. In 2021 she was awarded the Production Grant from Hangar Barcelona, where she also attended their residency program.
Her work has been shown internationally in places like the Bienal of Contemporary Art Sesc_Videobrasil (BR) and she has performed and participated in various discussion panels like Queer Sci-Tech Lab at the BFI London (UK) or Porn Studies at the Nottingham Contemporary (UK).
